The Soul of a Person

This page is written in the opinion of this website of it's meaning and explanation. Definition references in quotes from: [www.htmlbible.com/sacrednamebiblecom/kjvstrongs/].

Soul -- is the inner being of the person under the rules of creation by the Creator -- it can be lost, or destroyed in hell. The soul is apart from the body, but is contained in the body, and which harbors the spirit of the person. The person is made up of the spirit, the soul, and the body.

Spirit -- "is wind"; "a current of wind"; of rationality -- it is eternal or everlasting. The spirit is specific within the entity, but is abstract in nature and creation. The spirit is specific in intelligent animals, and abstract in the balance. The spirit is the gerneration of the mind which contains the conscious, subconscious, unconscious mind. From creation of the entity the spirit generates, and is unique to the entity.

Body -- the physical body.

Other aspects:

Instinct -- spirit in the abstract; i.e. rational program or generation in the abstract.

Heart -- "the thoughts or feelings" within the mind.

Mind -- "the intellect"; "deep thought".

Flesh -- "body, person...self, skin"

Entities:

Man -- contains body, soul, and spirit.

Angels -- contains angelic body; spiritual beings.

Animal -- contains body, and spirit. Animal spirit subject to Creator.

Giants (nephilim) -- contains body, and spirit. Nephilim spirit subject to Satan.

Clones -- contain body, and spirit. Cloned spirits subject to Satan; soulless.

Important verse in Old Testament:

"And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostils the breath of life; and man became a living soul." Genesis 2:7.

To help distinguish man from intelligent animals can be done by using the Hebrew, and basically can be summed up by using this phrase: nephesh only contains a soul if it has nshamah. Thus animals as living breathing creatures are life and breath, but do not have nshamah which is "a puff" of the Divine.

Important verse in New Testament:

"And the very God of peace sancify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ." 1 Thessalonians 5:23.

In the Greek the words for soul, spirit, body are: psuche, pneuma, soma. The Greek word zoe is "mere vitality, even of plants"; the word sarx is "flesh"; and the word kardia is "the heart". In the Hebrew the words for soul, spirit, body (living creature) are: nshamah, ruwach, nephesh. The Hebrew word chay is "alive"; the word basar is "flesh"; and the word leb is "the heart".
